This mod adds the Swiss as a selectable culture in the Early Modern Era. No other cultures are replaced, and the mod does not change anything outside of this specific culture.

The Swiss are also part of my Swiss Culture Pack and my Culture Super Pack.

The Swiss have their own Legacy Trait, Emblematic Quarter, and Emblematic Unit. Info below:

Affinity: Aesthete
Legacy Trait: Safe Haven: +1% Influence per empire at peace with you; +10 Science per empire at peace with you
Emblematic District: Reformed Church: +4 Faith; +1 Faith per territory following a foreign religion (global count, not just in your empire); -1 Faith per territory following your State Religion (global count, not just in your empire); +10 Faith per adjacent religious district (this includes Holy Sites, wonders that count as Holy Sites, and most EQs that produce Faith); -20 Faith and -10 Stability on adjacent Holy Sites; +6 Influence on adjacent Holy Sites; +2 Industry, +1 Influence, and +1 Science per Faith on Reformed Church; -10 Stability; May only be built once per city and must be built adjacent to a Holy Site; Cannot be bought out or cancelled once put in the build queue; Jumps to the front of the build queue
Emblematic Unit: Swiss Guards: Does not replace any unit; Gunner unit with 45 Combat Strength, 4 Movement, and 4 Range; Cannot retreat; +2 Combat Strength when under 66% health, +5 Combat Strength when under 33% health (this counteracts the normal penalties from damage to give +1 when under 66% and +3 when under 33%); Unlocks at Patronage

A note on how to use the Reformed Church: the Reformed Church gains Faith, which it turns into Industry, Influence, and Science, from the strength of non-state religions in the world. It will be most useful, and provide some insane yields, if your state religion is rather weak. The more your state religion spreads, the weaker the Reformed Church will become. Place the Reformed Church far from territories following foreign religions to reduce the time it will take them to convert to your state religion to preserve the high yields. The Reformed Church also steals Faith from adjacent Holy Sites (including wonders that count as Holy Sites), so place the Reformed Church next to several of your Holy Sites to weaken them and reduce the spread of your religion further while boosting the yields on the Reformed Church. You can only place one Reformed Church per city (instead of one per territory like most districts), so be strategic with where you place it.

Why the Swiss?

Switzerland in the 17th century was a center of the Protestant Reformation, with Huldrych (or Ulrich) Zwingli and Jean (or John) Calvin both living and doing most of their work in Zurich and Geneva, respectively. Throughout the Thirty Years' War which devastated most of central Europe in the middle of the 17th century, Switzerland remained neutral and served as a safe haven for many radical thinkers and theologians. During this time period, though Swiss mercenaries declined in importance, their role in guarding foreign royals, especially the Pope and the kings of France, reached its height.

GriotB @griotb

Playing with the Swiss in this era... I have been playing a religious game the whole way, and on the reformed church I have 666 industry, 333, science, 333 faith. It seems OP to me. Maybe rebalance it. Thanks again for the hard work.

Uncle2fire @uncle2fire

Thanks so much for the feedback! I have a nerf of the Reformed Church on my to-do list.
